A Night of Reflection: Harriet Tubman’s Legacy and America’s Days of Liberty

by | Jun 19, 2024

This Juneteenth, celebrate freedom and American history with a special movie night hosted by the First Congregational Church of Danbury. The event takes place on Friday, June 21st, from 6:00 PM to 9:15 PM at the Annie Orr Hall located at 164 Deer Hill Avenue in Danbury, Connecticut. Bring your family and friends to enjoy a screening of the powerful film “13th” followed by a discussion on the importance of Juneteenth in our nation’s history. Don’t miss this opportunity to come together and commemorate this significant day in American culture.

An Evening of Inspiration

The centerpiece of the evening is a biopic chronicling the extraordinary life of Harriet Tubman, a woman who defied unimaginable odds. Born into slavery, Tubman’s courage and determination led her to escape bondage and become a beacon of hope for countless others. She played a pivotal role in the Underground Railroad, a network of safe houses and routes that helped enslaved people reach freedom in the North.

Building Connections Through Film and Discussion

The movie screening is just the beginning. The event offers a delightful opportunity to connect with your community and engage in meaningful conversations.

Schedule of Events:

  • 6:45 PM – 8:45 PM: Immerse yourself in the inspiring story of Harriet Tubman on the big screen. Due to licensing restrictions, the movie title isn’t being revealed beforehand. • 8:45 PM – 9:15 PM: The movie concludes, but the conversation continues! This dedicated discussion period allows you to share your thoughts and feelings about the film. Who resonated with you most? What aspects of the story left a lasting impression? How does Harriet Tubman’s legacy connect to your community?
