A Close Call in Danbury: Detailed Report on the Condominium Fire and Rescue Initiatives

by | Sep 13, 2024

In a dramatic afternoon event, a condominium building at the well-known Lions Condominiums in Danbury found itself at the center of an emergency situation. The Danbury Fire Department sprang into action after being alerted to a fire at 126 Triangle Street, Building B, at precisely 3:17 p.m., receiving notifications through both the fire alarm system and a flurry of 911 calls. The scene they encountered was one of urgency, with heavy smoke billowing from a third-floor balcony and residents in the process of evacuating. The community watched in anticipation as the department quickly mounted their response.

The rescue operation that unfolded was nothing short of heroic. Firefighters, demonstrating exceptional courage and skill, immediately set about tackling the blaze. They worked efficiently to extend a hose line to the floor engulfed in flames while simultaneously conducting a search for victims. Among the acts of bravery was Lt. Nicholas Cabral’s successful rescue of a resident trapped on a third-floor deck of an adjacent apartment. In a separate but equally perilous situation, firefighter Sean Wanat facilitated the dramatic rescue of a family of four and their cat, who had taken refuge on the roof after climbing from their third-floor balcony. These efforts highlighted the bravery and quick thinking of the Danbury firefighters.

The aftermath of the fire saw the affected building quickly secured and the flames extinguished, limiting the damage primarily to the apartment where the fire originated and causing some water damage to two adjacent units. Remarkably, none of the evacuees, including the rescued individuals and their pet, sustained serious injuries, thanks to the swift care provided by Danbury EMS. In the wake of the incident, the community has come together to support the displaced residents, with the American Red Cross Connecticut stepping in to assist. Meanwhile, the Fire Marshal’s Office is actively investigating the cause of the blaze, aiming to prevent such occurrences in the future. This incident serves as a poignant reminder of the unpredictability of life and the importance of community readiness and response.

In the face of adversity, the Danbury community has shown commendable solidarity, rallying together to express support and gratitude for the first responders’ valiant efforts. This episode, though startling, underscores the critical importance of fire safety awareness and emergency preparedness. As investigations continue and recovery efforts are underway, the spirit of cooperation and resilience shines brightly within the Danbury community, a testament to its strength and unity.
